Territorial co-operation programme (includes INTERREG)

The Territorial Cooperation Programmes [European Regional Development Fund] fund projects which involve transnational cooperation and which contribute towards improving various aspects of the environment on an international level. The Territorial Cooperation Programmes consist of: the Italia-Malta Programme; the Med Programme; the Interreg IVC Programme, ESPON and INTERACT.

European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD)

Governs Community support for rural development including improving the competitiveness of agriculture and forestry, the environment and rural land management, as well as the quality of life and diversification of the rural economy.  The Rural Development Programme aims to safeguard and enhance the rural environment, improve the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and foster competitive and sustainable rural businesses and thriving rural communities.

Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP)

The CIP encourages the competitiveness of European enterprises. CIP targets SMEs and supports innovation activities (including eco-innovation supporting enterprises in eco-innovations, particularly with investments in plant and new equipment, which will lead to energy saving measures and the use of renewable non-fossil energy sources) through its Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme. Some activities may also be eligible in the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme (which focuses on energy efficiency or renewable energy).

European Fisheries Fund (EFF)

The European Fisheries Fund replaced the Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG) on 1 January 2007 and is designed to secure a sustainable European fishing and aquaculture industry through measures to adapt the EU fishing fleet, aquaculture, inland fishing, processing and marketing and the sustainable development of coastal fishing areas, amongst others.

Seventh EU Research Framework Programme (for research, technological development and demonstration activities) (FP7)

The 7th Framework Programme is the EU’s main instrument for funding European projects at research stage from 2007 till 2013. It consists of 10 different thematic research areas, one of them being the Environment (including climate change, pollution & risks, sustainable management of resources, environmental technologies, and earth observation tools for sustainable development).
